New Homes
Custom residential design for homes shaped around your site, lifestyle, climate and long-term needs. This may include concept design, floor plan development, exterior form, spatial planning, material direction, passive design considerations and documentation for pricing, approvals and construction.
Renovations + Extensions
Design support for substantial renovations, additions and reworking existing homes. This service is suited to projects where the layout, function, flow or liveability of the home needs to be improved, not just cosmetically updated. It can include reconfiguring existing spaces, adding new areas, improving indoor-outdoor connection, and preparing documentation for builders, engineers and certifiers.
Rural, Regional + Coastal Homes
Design for acreage, rural, regional and coastal properties where access, services, climate, views, privacy and practical day-to-day living all need to be considered.
This may include homes on larger blocks, sloping land, off-grid or semi-rural sites, coastal blocks, shed-style homes, secondary dwellings and staged builds. The focus is on designing a home that responds to its setting, whether that’s land, slope, sun, breeze, salt air, privacy or the realities of regional living.
Climate-Responsive Design
Homes designed with consideration for sun, shade, airflow, humidity, rainfall, cyclones and everyday tropical living.
For Far North Queensland, this means thinking carefully about orientation, ventilation, roof design, eaves, window placement, heat load, moisture, durability and how the home performs through both dry and wet season.
Sloping + Complex Sites
Design for sites that require more careful planning due to slope, access, levels, drainage, views or construction constraints.
These projects often need early thinking around floor levels, structural simplicity, retaining, stairs, split levels, earthworks, buildability and cost impact.
Documentation + Consultant Coordination
Preparation of drawing documentation for pricing, approvals and construction, with coordination of relevant consultants during the design process.
This may involve working alongside engineers, energy assessors, certifiers, builders, town planners or other consultants to help bring the documentation together clearly and consistently.
Not sure where your project fits?
That’s normal. Most projects begin as a messy pile of ideas, questions, screenshots
and “we’re not sure if this is possible.”
Get in touch and we can help you work out what stage you’re at, what information is needed,
and whether Wakana Design Co is the right fit for your project.
Please note
Wakana Design Co provides building design and documentation services, not full project management.
Building approval is usually lodged by the builder or certifier, though I can assist with coordinating the required documentation and liaising with consultants during the design stage.
